Chichen Itza

Nach der Einladung nach Chichen Itza ins Labor war ich voller Euphorie. Ich hatte endlich meinen Traumjob gefunden. Ich wartete nur noch darauf, in den Bus steigen zu koennen, und mir ihre Arbeit von der Naehe ansehen zu koennen.
Also machte ich mich am Samstag, nachdem ich mich am Freitag abend gebuehrend von Jan, Katie und Mimo verabschiedet hatte, auf den langersehnten Weg.
In Chichen angekommen fiel mir auf, dass es dort 2 Eingaenge gab, und das Labor von Maya Skies sich auf der anderen Seite der Anlagebefindet. Da mich das Team eingeladen hat, wollte ich keinen Eintritt zahlen und/oder ein Taxi, das mich auf die andere Seite bringt. Also redete ich so lang auf die Leute an der Information und dann beim Eintritt ein, bis mich ein Mexikaner mit seinem Roller durch den Park fuhr.
Er setzte mich bei dem Tempel der Krieger, direkt vor einem ueberaus verwunderten Mark ab. Dieser gab mir erstmal einen Pass, mit dem ich ueberall unbehelligt rumlaufen konnte, und zeigte mir, was er gerade arbeitete. Ich konnte mit ihm die Pyramide (fuer Touristen unzugaenglich) bestiegen und beobachten, wie er (im Gegensatz zu anderen) auf eine Wolke wartete. Denn er wollte keine Schatten in den Fotos fuer die Texturen der 3D-Objekte.
Dann durfte ich sogar in die Pyramide! Dafuer braucht man wohl mindestens 1 Jahr an Papierkrieg
Ich konnte mir das Labor anschaun, und durfte sogar helfen die 3D Bilder zusammen zu fuegen.
Nachts machten wir auf dem Tempel der Jaguare 3D Bilder der Schlangen. Kevin war von den Tieren im Algemeinen und von diesen im Besonderen sehr angetan. Schlussendlich opferten wir beiden Schlangen Oreos, weil sie beim Scannen so schoen stillgehalten haben.
Dann bekam ich im Licht des Vollmondes eine persoenliche Fuehrung aller Pyramiden. Ich konnte sogar auf das Observatorium klettern, was um ehrlich zu sein ueberaus gefaehrlich war.
Am naechsten Tag erwartete ich Nienke und Fleur (die ich in Teotihuacan kennengelernt hatte). Da zu viele Touristen anwesend waren, konnten sie erst nach Schliessing auf die Pyramiden. Darum schauten sie sich erstmal ein paar Cenotes an, waehrend ich im Labor half.
Abends gab Kevin den beiden und mir bei Sonnenuntergang noch eine Fuehrung und zeigte uns sogar alte geheime Mayawege durch den Dschungel.
Mal sehen, was sich daraus ergibt, vielleicht arbeite ich demnaechst sogar in Amerika,....

After being invited to visit the lab in Chichen Itza ins Labor I was full of happieness. I finaly found my dream job. I just waited to get into the bus to have a closer look at their work. After saying Good Bye to Katie, Jan and Mimo on Friday night I left on Saturday morning.
After arriving in Chichen I recognised, that there are 2 entrances and the lab of Maya Skies is on the other side. Because the team invited me in for free I didnt wnat to pay for the entrance and I didnt want to take a Taxi to the other side either. So I talked first at the people at the information desk and than at the ons at the entrance until one drove me with his scooter through the park.
He droped me at the temple of the worriors directly infront of a very surprised Mark. He first gave me a badge so I could walk through the park. I was allowed to climb the pyramide with him (not available for tourists) and to have a look at his work. In Contrary to others he waited for clouds so the pictures for the textures of the 3D objects didnt get shaddows.
Than I was allowed into (!) the pyramide. Which obviously takes years of paperwork to be allowed to.
I had a look at the lab and was even allowed to put together some of the 3D images.
In the night we took 3D images of the serpents on the temple of the tigers. Kevin was very interested in serpents and we sacraficed some Oreos to them, because they where holding so still while we took the pictures.
After that I got a private tour of all the pyramides under the light of the full moon. I was even allowed to went up the observatory, which was actualy very dangerous.
The next day Nienke and Fleur came (the girls I got to know in Teotihuacan). Because there where too many tourists, they wherent allowed on the pyramids before closing time. So they went to the cenotes first while I helped in the lab.
In the evening while the sun was setting Kevin gave us all another tour and even showed us some hidden Mayan paths through the jungle.
I will have a look what comes out of this, and I even might be working in the USA soon,....
